Gharaunda is located in the Karnal District Of Haryana State. Gharaunda is a small village and a municipal committee situated at a distance of about 100 kms from New Delhi. It is 17 kms from its district main city Karnal. Gharaunda is also a very big Grain market of the state. There is a huge market called New Grain Market in the city where traders from all over North India come to stock grains for trade. Grains are also exported to other countries from here. It was initially a part of Karnal and was ruled by the Mughal ruler Muhammad Shah and then the Marathas took over this region. The entire area was taken over by the British by the mid-18th century. Post Independence this became a part Karnal district of Haryana State
