The State Government introduced new scheme for upgradation of choupals / community centers in the municipalities of the State. Choupals / Community centers are public locations where members of a community tend to gather for group activities, social support, public information, and other purposes. They may some times be open for the whole community or for a specialized group within the greater community. Moreover, it becomes difficult for small and medium sized cities to maintain the existing choupals / community centers due to lack of adequate capacity and resources. Therefore, it was felt that municipalities need to be assisted, in terms of resources for creation and upgradation of choupals / community centers from the State. During the current financial year 2014-15, a budget provision of 98.55 crore was made under the scheme. But, in the revised budget, a provision of Rs.30.00 crore has been made.
